Parent Code of Conduct

All parents must read and abide by the Orinda Park Pool Parent Code of Conduct. By checking the box during registration you are acknowledging that you have read and understand Code of Conduct.

Our team is fortunate to have highly experienced, dedicated, and professional coaches working with our children.  As parents, it is absolutely essential that we give our coaches the respect and authority they deserve to run our team. Our coaches are hired for that purpose.

We, as a team, highly encourage the following parental behavior:

–    Open communication between parents, swimmers and coaches emphasizing goal-setting and focusing on the performance expectations of both the swimmer and the parents

–    Meeting with the coaches/swimmers/parents during normal hours, and with discretion appropriate to the situation, to discuss issues

–    Positive reinforcement of all swimmers in all situations, affirming team spirit and team loyalty

–    Parental involvement as volunteers  in organizing and running of swim meets and social events

We, as a team will not tolerate the following parental behavior:

–   Coaching your children at practice or during competitions: that is the coaches’ job

–    Interrupting or confronting the coaching staff during practice or competitions

–    Abusive language towards coaches, swimmers, parents, officials and your own children

–    Any behavior that discredits or disrupts our swimmers and our team

As a parent of a swimmer and a member of the organization, I will abide by the following guidelines:

I. Practice teamwork with all parents, swimmers, and coaches by supporting the values of Discipline, Sportsmanship, Commitment, and Hard Work.

II. Refrain from interfering with coaches' ability to teach and coach, both at practice and during competition.

III. Demonstrate good sportsmanship by conducting myself in a manner that earns the respect of my child, other swimmers, parents, officials, and the coaches at meets and practices.

IV. Maintain self-control at all times. Know my role.

Swimmers – Swim

Coaches – Coach

Officials – Officiate

Parents – Parent

V. Understand that criticizing, name-calling, use of abusive language or gestures directed toward the coaches, officials, or any participating swimmer will not be tolerated.

VI. Enjoy involvement with organization by supporting the swimmers, coaches, and other parents through positive communication and actions.

During swim meets, questions or concerns regarding coaches’ decisions will not be tolerated. Do NOT approach coaches with complaints. Relay selections and other swim team decisions are made by the coaching staff: all coaches’ decisions are final. After competition is completed, it is acceptable to direct questions or concerns, in an appropriate manner, to the coaches.

During competition, questions or concerns regarding decisions made by the officials are to be directed to a member of the coaching staff or to our OMPA representative.

Sanctions: Should I conduct myself in such a way that brings discredit or discord to the swim team, or national governing body, I voluntarily subject myself to disciplinary action.

The Executive Committee shall vigorously enforce this Code.  The Executive Committee will receive any and all complaints or reports of alleged violations and will be obliged to conduct an anonymous and complete investigation, including interviewing all those involved and issuing findings and recommendations for action.
