Welcome, 2024 Orinda Park Pool Stingrays!

The Orinda Park Pool Stingrays are a three-season recreational swim team that practices from spring to fall. Our club proudly competes within the OMPA league. A valid OPP membership is required to join the team. Learn more here.

OPP Swim Team Parent Obligation Details

Orinda Park Pool Swim Team depends on our coaches, swimmers, and parents working together for a successful summer. As with every team in the OMPA, parent volunteers are critical components of meets and social activities. Do not register your child(ren) for swim team if you do not agree to fully (and enthusiastically!) complete your required obligations. We thank everyone for their collective contribution of time and energy to the team—it truly could not exist without it. Job sign-up for 2024 opens on April 24 at 5:00 PM and ends on May 4! If you have not signed up for all of your required jobs by then, they will be assigned to you.

Here is a link to the 2024 volunteer overview. Please review that document and this site page before emailing with questions.

PARENT OBLIGATIONS:

Regular-Season Obligations

Families with one competitive swimmer under age 15: You will have 5 regular-season obligations. You must fulfill total of five job points.

Families with two or more competitive swimmers under age 15: You have 8 regular-season obligations. You must fulfill a total of eight job points.

Families with one or more Mini Stingers: You have 1 required regular-season obligation. You must fulfill one job point. (If you have one age-group swimmer and one Mini Stinger, that would total 6 obligations for the season.)

Families with 15 and up swimmers only: You do not have a required regular-season obligation (but ARE required to take two OMPA shifts if you have a swimmer in that meet).

Most jobs are worth one point and correspond to an approximate four-hour shift. Each job will have a points value listed next to it when you sign up. Please note: obligations are subject to change based on final team registration numbers.

OMPA Obligations

In addition to these regular-season obligations, every family with a swimmer in the OMPA is required to fulfill two OMPA work obligations during the OMPA meet. Families with 15 & up swimmers only and families with Mini Stinger swimmers only are still required to fulfill the OMPA obligation. OMPA obligation sign-ups will occur in early July.

Sign-ups for Obligations

Sign-ups for obligations will be done through the OPP Swim Team website. Job sign-up for the 2024 season will begin at 5:00 PM (PST) on WEDNESDAY, April 24. Sign-ups are on a first-come, first serve basis. Sign-ups will close on May 4. If you have not signed up for all of your regular-season obligations by May 5, jobs will be assigned to you. If you cannot make an assigned shift, it will be your responsibility to find a replacement.

Once the obligation registration process has been activated, use the following procedure to sign up for obligations:

PARENT OBLIGATION AGREEMENT

  • You are required to fulfill all of your obligations, even if you are traveling much of the summer or your kids aren't swimming in meets.
  • In order to receive credit, you must arrive on time and may not leave until your shift has been completed.
  • Swimmers will not be eligible to swim unless their parents have signed-up for their work obligations. If you do not sign up for the required amount of obligations, they will be assigned to you.
  • Anyone who no-shows for an obligation will be fined $250. The OMPA meet no-show fine is $400. Two tardies are equivalent to one no-show. Fines will increase for repeat no-shows: $250 the first time, $500 for the second no-show, etc.
  • If you are unable to work your meet obligation, you may hire a substitute or trade with another person in advance of the event. However, the responsibility for the shift remains yours – you will be penalized if your sub/trade is a no-show. (See Hiring a Substitute below for details.)
  • If you are unable to work a social event, you may NOT hire a sub. You must find another family from the team to trade shifts with.
  • You MUST reply back to the emails Meet Directors send before each meet confirming that you will be there to work your shift or that you have hired a sub. For Wednesday meets, Meet Directors must receive your confirmation response no later than 5:00PM the day before. For Saturday meets, Meet Directors must receive your confirmation response by 3:00PM the day before. If you have not confirmed your shift by then, you will be charged the $250 no-show fee since we will have to find a sub to fill your shift.

HIRING A SUBSTITUTE

You may use your own substitute or one from our sub list for meet-related jobs as long as they meet the age criterion and are capable of performing the duty in question.

  • Paid substitutes (subs) can be hired for supervised meet-related positions only as specified in the job description. Substitutes cannot be hired for social obligations, although you are welcome to trade with another swim team parent. (Social obligations include jobs related to Stingray Ball, bowling, Spirit Week...basically any non-meet event.)
  • All substitutes must be at least 16 years old. Shuttle drivers must hold a valid driver's license and drive an insured vehicle. Shuttle drivers must be at least 21 years old
  • Substitutes can only charge $65 per regular-season obligation and $75 for OMPA jobs. Please report any substitute who attempts to violate this rule. If the substitute does not show or does not complete their shift, you are liable for the $250 no-show penalty.
  • It is your responsibility to hire a substitute for your job, even if something comes up at the last minute, including illness.
  • You are responsible for informing the Meet Director that you will be using a substitute and providing them with the substitute’s name, cell phone and email address.
