Parent Code of Conduct

Avon Eagle Swim Club was formed to provide a program for youth with the direct purpose and commitment to advance the sport of competitive swimming by providing swimmers with the highest quality coaching, and at the same time by providing an enjoyable and productive swimming environment. The goal of Avon Eagle Swim Club is to recognize each youth's potential and provide each swimmer the opportunity to grow and succeed to their highest level. The expectation of AESC is that both swimmers and parents will always exhibit the highest standards of sportsmanship while participating in all swimming events and practices. Parents have a key role in developing a positive team and family environment. Parents agreed to comply with and support the following rules that constitute the AESC Parent Code of Conduct upon registering their swimmers for the team.

Note: The use of audio or visual recording, including a cell phone camera, is not allowed in changing areas, restrooms or locker rooms at any time. Any violation of this code will be brought to the attention of the Board of Directors, which will issue the appropriate response. This response could include one or more of the following: verbal or written reprimand, probation, or temporary/permanent suspension.

As a Parent:

  • I will demonstrate good sportsmanship by conducting myself in a manner that earns the respect of my child, other swimmers, parents, officials, and coaches at meets and practices.
  • I will not coach or instruct the team or any swimmer at a practice or meets (from the stands or other areas) or interfere with coaches on the pool deck.
  • I will ensure punctuality of my child at practices and at meets.
  • I will not force my child to participate in sports and will promise not to re-live my athletic pursuits through my child.
  • I will praise my child for trying hard and will never ridicule or yell at my child or another participant for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  • I will maintain self-control at all times. I understand that my role is that of a parent, not a coach, official or swimmer.
  • I understand that criticizing, name-calling, degrading personal comments, use of abusive language or gestures directed toward coaches, officials, parents, spectators and/or any participating swimmer will not be permitted or tolerated.
  • I will support the swimmers, coaches, and other parents with positive communication and actions and not participate in idle gossip.
  • I will abide by an official’s decision and direct questions or concerns regarding such decisions to a member of AESC’s coaching staff. I will address officials via the AESC coaching staff only.
  • I will share the burden among parents by volunteering to time or assume other volunteer positions at meets at which our children are swimmers and at AESC hosted meets.
  • If I am not in a volunteer position, I understand that I will not be allowed on deck at any meet or practice.
  • I will promise to uphold and project the image of the Avon Eagle Swim Club image that the team can be proud of.

Consequences for parents that violate the Parent Code of Conduct are as follows:

  1. Offense Meeting between parent and member(s) of the Board of Directors.
  2. Offense Restriction of parent’s attendance at practices and meets. Restriction of parent’s interaction with members of the coaching staff. Restrictions are for the remainder of one calendar year beginning with the date of the first infraction's occurrence.
  3. Offense Suspension of swimmer(s) for the remainder of one calendar year beginning with the date of the first infraction’s occurrence without any fee adjustment or refund.

Infraction offenses and their consequences are valid for one calendar year beginning on the date of the first infraction’s occurrence. Should I conduct myself in such a way that brings discredit or discord to the Avon Eagle Swim Club, I voluntarily subject myself to disciplinary action as specified in the Club By-Laws.

If I have a concern related to any coach or official, I should discuss the concern with the athlete’s coach privately and in a professional manner. If the matter is not resolved, I may submit a formal written, signed and dated statement to the AESC Board President. The Board President is authorized to create a panel of 3 Board members who, in their discretion, will review the matter and make a decision that is final and cannot be appealed.
