SUMMARY OF SWIM MEET JOBS

Meet Director—At away and invitational meets, introduce self to host team’s Meet Director, confirm lanes/volunteer assignments, bring list of Meadow workers with phone numbers, check in Meadow workers and hand out stop watches, follow up/track down any late-shows and relieve floaters that are filling in for late arrivals, make sure floaters are relieving timers, check in with timers throughout the meet to make sure they are being relieved, gather stop watches after meet and return to Meadow, remind Ribbons volunteer to bring family boxes back to Meadow.

Timer—With either electronic and/or manual stopwatch time each swimmer in your assigned lane.

Recorder—Verify swimmer’s name in each heat and record manual time on heat sheet.

Clerk of the Course—At invitational meets, help check in swimmers and seat them in their assigned heat/lane.  Escort groups of swimmers to blocks.  

Desk—Organize heat sheets and assist checking/inputting swimmers’ times in database.  Print out event results and give to runners to be posted. This job varies depending on host pool—might entail awards and ribbons.

Coaches’ Cooler—Bring water, drinks, and ice to invitational meets for coaches.   Bring cooler back to Meadow (or home if using own cooler).  You will be reimbursed.

Shade Structure—Bring 2-4 shade structures to meet.  This is generally a two family job, with one family taking items to the meet and setting up and the other taking them down and bringing back to Meadow. 

Runner—Pick up heat sheets from recorders and take to desk for input into computer.   Also post event results.

Ribbons –At home meets, assist at Desk. At away and invitational meets, bring family boxes to meet (located outside Coaches Office). Place labels on ribbons for swimmers that placed in each event.  File swimmer ribbons in their family folder. Bring family boxes back to Meadow.

Clean Up—At home meets, assist in cleaning up the pool deck after the meet.  Put timer chairs away, pick up garbage, organize tables/chairs, and take down shade structures (if any).

Floater – Relieve timers throughout the meet to give them a break.  If any workers show up late for shift, fill in until they arrive.
