Junior 1 (JR1)

Overview:

Junior 1 generally consists of swimmers 9 to 12 years old. Proper stroke technique is still an emphasis along with the addition of preparation for longer competition events (i.e. 200’s odd stroke/1000, 1650 free/400 IM). Dryland training continues to be a daily part of the training program. As with all Junior level training groups, proper practice habits are reinforced. Swimmers at this level are expected to train and compete in each stroke and should be focused on becoming as well-rounded a swimmer as possible.

Attendance Expectations:

Junior 1 practices 5 times each week for 2 hours, which includes 30 minutes of dryland prior to getting in the water to swim. It is recommended that Junior 1 swimmers attend all offered practices.  An 80% overall practice attendance is the goal for this group. Swimmers are expected to participate in meets, as selected by the coaches, every four to six weeks. The group begins in late August and runs through early August.
